Ways To Maintain Your Furnace

Ways To Maintain Your Furnace
Dirt and grime is the primary enemy of your furnace. It could waste fuel and noticeably lower furnace efficiency. Dirt impacts all three standard
components of your furnace, so cleaning is an essential part of regular maintenance. The three components of the furnace that should be cleaned are the filter system, the blower, and the motor. A professional technician from Park Mechanical can take care of the upkeep of your unit so you don’t have to deal with the hassle.

The furnace filter should be swapped out or cleaned at the beginning of the heating season and about monthly during times of steady use. To look at the filter, the technician would take it out and hold it up to the light. If it appears to be clogged, it’ll get replaced with a new filter of the same size and type regardless of the length of time it has been used.

The technician would then clean up the blower assembly, belts and pulleys to the blower, and motor housing. Cleaning the blower is critical if your furnace has a squirrel-cage fan, because openings in this type of blower often become clogged with dirt. To clean the blower, the panel that covers filter will be removed to gain admission to the blower or panel on front of the furnace. This panel may be using slip-fit on hooks or it may be held by a series of screws. Access to the inside of the blower is usually gained by sliding out the fan unit. If the power cord to fan assembly is not of sufficient length to permit the fan unit to slide all the way out, then the cord will be disconnected. Wipe the motor housing clean to prevent any heat build up in the motor.
